100-metre sprint final, the 21-year-old Bolt has promised to run through the tape in the men’s Olympic 200-metre final (10:20 a.m. ET).

“I’m just going to run my heart out and hope for the best,” said Bolt, who let up in the final 20 metres of the 100, but still managed to run it in 9.69 seconds.

Last month, he pulled away from the pack to win the 200 in 19.76 at the London Grand Prix.

American Michael Johnson holds the Olympic and world record at 19.32, set in 1996 at Atlanta.

Should the heavily favoured Bolt defeat contenders such as Americans Walter Dix and Shawn Crawford in Beijing, he would be the first man to win the 100 and 200 Olympic events since Carl Lewis in 1984.

Wednesday’s race will be the six-foot-five Bolt’s last individual event in Beijing, with the lean sprinter expected to compete in the 4×100 relay!
