The Montauk Monster found in new york…. July 31, 2008

Something odd washed up on the beach in Montauk, New York yesterday. It was something no one had ever seen before, and people are still baffled by it’s appearance.

It’s being called the “Montauk Monster” and it, as of yet, has not been correctly identified. Some speculate it is a decomposing dog, a viral hoax or maybe it is in fact, a monster.

Either way it’s dead, and it’s not pretty.

Ryan Kelso, via iPhone, said he spotted it — alive! — in the Montauk dunes. “It looked about the size of an average fox, gray in color, eyes like a mole, hairless and was breathing quite heavily,” he wrote, “needless to say we were freaked out by this discovery and fled the area quickly.”

Lavey Fater saw a surfer bring one to shore, near Ditch Plains.

“It was hairless and gross,” Fater reported. “…The surfer said he had no idea what it was, but that he threw it in the dunes because he didn’t want to be surfing next to it.”

Keith found something last week in Greenport; Chris found one a month ago at Jones Beach east of Field 6. (“The one I saw had a longer snout or beak or whatever you want to call it.”) Sean said he buried one, 3 feet deep, in South Jamesport

thats no dog or monster! ITS A PIGBIRD! how could you not see it!

charity - May 15, 2009

that is no dog i can tell you that…personally i think it might be one of the monsters that the BIBLE talks about. But that is just me.

sam - December 13, 2009

obviously

Jean - January 12, 2010

I think the Montauk monster is a ‘chickensauras’. Hans Larsson, noted paleontologist, and expert re: genetic engineering @ McGill University, Montreal, Canada, ~ is trying to hatch a dinosaur from a chicken. Somehow, he was able to obtain dinosaur dna. He’s inserted that into a chicken egg. And I believe the result is the Montauk monster. I believe something is wrong with the creature, it dies or I don’t know what!, and it’s carcass is thrown into the ocean, making it’s way south to New York area. That is my theory. [~Hans Larsson is chair of Canada Research Center, they’re financing his research. He’s also written a book, “How To Build A Dinosaur”.] His research should be stopped! It’s insane! Not to mention, stupidity. :((((

Jay Mode - July 2, 2012

Woah…if what your saying is true, that’s pretty heavy stuff. I’m sure we’ve all seen or read “Jurassic park”, and obviously it didn’t work out great in that fictional scenario. Yes it’s definitely interesting and wild to think dinosaurs could once again roam the earth, but hey, they had they’re time and it’s over now. I personally love reading about dinosaurs and everything, but I definitely don’t want to have to outrun a tyrannosaurus Rex. So if this professor created this creature, at least it didn’t wreak any havoc like true dinosaurs would if he was successful. So in conclusion, I would say to this guy if he is the culprit, “Dude, leave well enough alone!”. P.S. That ‘montauk monster’ is freaky looking.

rai - September 16, 2012

no buddy, u should research on ur own. THERE IS NO DINOSAUR Dna anywhere left in the world. not in there bones, not in there dried up blood.

There was many debates regards to this because of the Jurassic park movie because of what they did to bring the dinosaurs back. Though it seemed logical, the luck factor just wasn’t there in real life.

Further more the most common form of cloning used on animals today involves nuclear transfer. Scientists put the nucleus of one cell into a second cell of the same species after destroying the second cell’s nucleus. There are no dinosaur cells or dinosaur eggs that could host new set of DNA. Researchers would have to find a different way to let the DNA grow into a living dinosaur.

Guys be foreal it’s a raccoon short ears long toes something has tore the fleash off of the face that’s why it looks like a beak! It has been in water so long it’s swollen up! It has te same skull placement as one also

2. Ann - July 31, 2008

there is no way that whatever that is, is either a dog
or a sea turtle. sea turtles have flippers and ‘ that ‘ has a thigh structure in the back . sea turtles also do
not have long tails as you can see in the picture. as for a dog..nothing can explain the pointed beak and how close the eys are to the beak. in any case..this will remain unidentified for a while.

3. joseph fruge - August 1, 2008

I HEARD JEFF CORWIN SAY IT IS A VERY RARE RACOON THART IS BS. I MEAN LOOK AT IT HAS TO BE AT LEAST 2 FT. LONG. IVE HEARD PEOPLE SAY IT IS A SEA TURTLE THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN TRUE EXCEPT THERE ARE NO FINS OR A SHELL YOU WOULD ALSO SEE A CUT ON THE BACK BECAUSE A TURTLES SPINE IS IN ITS SHELL. AND A PIG BIRD IS NOTHING MORE THAN MIDIEVAL TALK FOR A NEW BORN BIRD OR A BIRD THROUGHOUT ITS ADULTERY GROWS NO HAIR. BEFORE I SAY WHAT EXACTLEY WHAT IT IS UNTIL I GIVE MY THESIS ON IT FIRST IT HAS HAIR ON THE ANKLE SO IN NO WAY A PIG AND NO WAY A BIRD, NO WINGS. AND THE BOTTOM `BEAK` IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY IT IS ACTUALLY A ROW OF VERY HEALTHY TEETH AND I`LL GIVE IT TO YOU IT DOES LOOK LIKE DOG BAECAUSE OF THIS AND IVE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE BUT EVERYTHING THAT IS LIVING HAS A NOSE AND EARS MADE OF CARTILIDGE WHICH IS NOT BONE BUT TISSUE THAT CAN BE THE FIRST ON A CORPSE TO COMPLETLEY DECOMPOSE. SO IT MAY NOT BE A BEAK BUT A NOSE FALLING OFF OF A FACE WHICH MEANS IT HAD A BIG NOSE THAT STUCK OUT SO IT COULD BE A DOG THAT DIED ON A SAILORS BOAT AND THE BODY WAS DUMPED OR DUN DUN DUN DA ITS WITH 50 PERCENT DOUBT SINCE I HAD NO CHANCE TO SEE IT UP CLOSE OR SEE ITS MOVEMENTS, A NEW BORN BEAR THAT COULD HAVE HAD BEEN SMUGGLED IN FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY TO THIS OR ANOTHER COUNTRY I DO NOT KNOW IAM USING UNCLE I AM PROUD TO SAY IS PART OF THE COAST GAURD IN RHODE ISLAND AND HE CAN ACCESS THE RECORDS OF AN IDENTIFIED. ME I THINK ITS OUT OF HIS HANDS EVEN OUT OF A FOUR STAR GENERALS HANDS BECAUSE IT DISSAPEREPD A HALF HOUR AFTER THIS PICTURE WAS TAKEN BY THE FISHER MAN WHO FOUND THIS THING I THINK ITS THE ARMY. THEY THINK THAT IF WE FOUND OUT SOMETHING WE WILL FREAK OUT AND LIVE IN HARMONY WITH THE WORLD BUT WE ARE BEING BRAINWASHED WITH THE FACT THAT THERE ARE NO ALIENS THATS BS I HAVE SEEN THEM AND THERE SHIPS AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES EACH AND IF SOMETHING IS WIERD AND NEW CALL IT UNKNOWN INSTAEAD OF A MONSTER AND TO END THIS THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING THEY CANT WAHT IT IS ARE THE ONES WHO ARE BRAINWASHED. YOU CANT DENY THAT IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS OR DOUBTS ABOUT WHAT I HAVE SAID YOU CAN CALL ME AT 954-483-9394.

4. Mz T - August 1, 2008

thats just nasty! ewwww
what is it???????

5. Voicebox - August 1, 2008

It is definitely a raccoon. This poor thing has been in the water for some time. The body is somewhat bloated, the fur is obviously gone – probably the result of a severe case of mange – and the soft tissue that once made up the snout has decomposed or has been eaten away. What appears as a beak in the photo is actually the bone from which the soft tissue that made up the snout once protruded. The dental structure of the lower jaw is exactly that of a raccoon. If you do several simple searches to look at photos of raccoons, as well as photos of their skulls and dental structure, you will see instantly that this is a raccoon. Animals without their distinctive fur coat always look a bit odd and are sometimes photographed as “mystery creatures.” In the last few years in the mid-Atlantic states, there have been several such cases. They turned out to be foxes or coyotes that had lost their hair to severe mange. It’s fun to imagine that there are really “mystery creatures” roaming through our back yards or washing up on our beaches, but most of the time it is a common animal that is disfigured because of disease or genetic defects. So before we start talking about this being a case for cryptozoologists or conspiracy theorists, let’s just take a moment to try to be logical.

its me!

7. Lee - August 1, 2008

well i think that its fake cause if they found this think why do they only have a picture of it and wouldnt you think they would have taken many angles of pictures and have at least some kind of video that showed this thing up close and even if it was real it was probley just a turtle that came out of its shell when it died………..

8. Danielle - August 1, 2008

it kinda looks like yoda haha.
i think this is amazing honestly. i just
wonder if it walked on all fours or on two legs..

9. harry - August 2, 2008

10. Aden alfia - August 2, 2008

I flipped when I saw that thing. It looks like a bird goat dog duck thing.I wonder if it’s a dinosaur it looks like a dinosaur. It’s a sea creature.

11. Katelyn Keul - August 2, 2008

The head of the creature looked like a bird because of the beak and the teeth. But the rest of it looked like a really fat dog.

12. mercedes - August 2, 2008

omg this thing is hideous why in the world i had to wait until i go to school to here something like this anyways the animal probally is a racoon but its big what kind of sickness does it got

13. the montser - August 3, 2008

i think next, the fly and the bird dog racoon tirtle thing are going to mate and make a bird dog racoon turtle [fly] monster with fly wings

14. samuel jones - August 3, 2008

o i have one of those, i found it on a near by beach not to far from my house it walk up to me and was really friendly now its my pet and sleep at me feet every night.

15. caleb - August 4, 2008

i’m going to have to agree that it is a raccoon that’s lost its hair. the jaw structure is certainly similar to a raccoon structure, and the thick hair under the neck resembles the hair of a raccoon. what really gives it away are the feet- raccoons leave footprints all the time in the mud at my pond, and those are exactly the sort of feet that would make them. as for the nose- well it’s simply a case of decomposition or loss.

16. andrew - August 9, 2008

its a fakkke; its not a racoooon or anything but a fakee. the news reporterss showed two
different pictures&views of this ‘ montauk monster ‘ alongg with different storiess of
its disposall . one picturee [ as shownn above ] is the originall that was leeked to
the publicc. withh a sharpp beaakk&eyes smushedd togetherr closer then that of a dog.
it has an elongatedd frronnt paww and its body fatt and long legs are too big to be
that of a racoon . the finderss of that ‘ montauk monster ‘ had said theey gave the
‘ monster ‘ to one of their friends…if this is suchh a highh classifiedd creature that
capturedd our attentionnn it would have been handed over to the authoritiess and nott just
a randomm peerson . the secondd picturee looks that of a boar. there is NO beakk&you can
still see all of its limbs&body parts. now why would there be two different pictures for
the samee monster seen at the samee time. there are other stories of its disposall suchh as
it beingg buried and throwwnn awayy … iff this was suchh an amazementt…the stories
would have been sett straightt&the pictures would be proven&authorites would havee thiss
creature in theirr handss. thereforee…it is nothing butt a fakke.

25. Kikyo - December 20, 2008

It is a deformed racoon. But it also looks like a mystical creature. The first time I saw this was while watching TV. When I saw it I said “Man that is the grossest thing I have ever saw.” I showed it to my friend and she is like… OMG!!! that is soo cool she loves mystical creature.
I think is is kinda cool to. After every coment I read I scroll up to look at the pic. i think it is realy cool and freaky at the same time isn’t that cool. WOW! Peace out.

26. Anonymous - December 21, 2008

It looks like a very large bird-rat… You know when the Titanic sank, the rats were incredibly intelligent, and to add that they were also the size of small-medium dogs. So when they were in the water, if they knew they were going to die, the rats would die with their lungs filled with air, so that way the rats that were still alive could latch onto their bodies, and stay afloat. perhaps some oil spills over the years could’ve altered something somewhere, and this is just a new type of organism. Who knows?

27. andre - December 21, 2008

its no a dog its a turtle

28. Kikyo - December 21, 2008

i think it is soooooo kewl don’t you?

29. steven - December 21, 2008

its fake
because dont you think that if it was real they would of taken a DNA analysis to see what it actually was ??

30. Katrina - December 25, 2008

Ok heres what and why it cant bes;

* Raccoon. (“The legs appear to be too long in proportion to the body.”)
* Sea turtle. (“Sea turtles do not have teeth”)
* Rodent. (“Rodents have two huge, curved incisor teeth in front of their mouths.”)
* Dog or other canine such as a coyote. (“Prominent eye ridge and the feet” don’t match.)
* Hoax. (This whole thing could be a hoax, as in some photocroped a picture to make people wonder.)

I am a scientist that has researched this for some time and come with these solutions. Thank you for reading!

31. Katrina - December 25, 2008

And steven, the blood had dried a bit and the skin waas to be peserved, I do not like the idead either but it was my order. Bye!

32. bamablonde - December 29, 2008

All of you crazy people that think this is any kind of racoon need to go and look at an actual racoon! haahaa…a racoon looks nothing like that..even if it had lost all its hair and was bloated!! It is most likely a sea turtle that has been seperated from its shell (dont ask how..it just happens sometimes) and unfortunately it washed up on shore and if it really was alive, like the some of the claims state, it was probably looking for somewhere to hid from the sun..as without its shell it was dying…=(

I am still laughing at all you crazy people that thought this looked like a racoon! gah! really….a racoon DOES NOT HAVE A BEAK!!!

33. Steve - December 29, 2008

This is a different Steven and in my opinion I think it’s some kind of genetic mutation of a bird of some sort mixed with some other animal that escaped from a secret mutation facility somewhere far out at sea. You may think I’m crazy but this is my opinion.

34. Joey - December 29, 2008

It’s a boar. The beak is nose cartilage and it also explains the bottom jaw, tail, ears, body shape, fur, and two-toed feet. It was deteriorated by the salt water and sun.

35. mrgiggles - December 30, 2008

38. dunneedtonoe - February 7, 2009

dudes google Montauk Project

39. LOGICAL - February 19, 2009

This is a raccoon you fools. The “fins” are actually it’s feet, they are laying one on top of the other and just look like a fin. If you look at close-up pictures you can see that they are definately raccoon feet, which are basically little hands. Where they claim a “cloth is tyed around the leg” is actually a tuft of fur. The “beak” only looks that way because the teeth have fallen out and the snout has been deteoriated. Look at close up pictures and you can see the rounded out spaces where there were teeth.
They do not show many of these close up pictures because then all these smart ones wouldn’t surf the web for hours looking at the elusive MONNSSTTTEERRR.
But what do I know…OF COURSE IT IS THE COMMON PUGCOONTURTLEBEAST. Obviously…

40. joe - February 26, 2009

its a dog, a boxer

41. Biologicaltesting - February 26, 2009

The animal shown in the picture most likely came from Plum Island Animal Disease Center, which is yards off the coast from where the animal was found.

Plum Island is a federally owned facility that does testing on animals, they claim to only do testing on livestock, but the facility has been shrouded in secrecy since it operated as a biological weapons program during the Cold War. It is now mysteriously owned by Home Land Security and photography is not allowed on the island under any circumstances.

There were two sets of photos taken of the animal. A woman who took pictures while at the beach did not release her photos until she saw an article in the news paper with pictures of the creature that someone else had taken. She then realized the pictures she had were of value and they were released.

There were several eye-witnesses that state they saw the carcass, there is no doubt that it is real. Eye-witnesses state that a man carried away the body of the dead animal, he stated that he “was going to mount it on his wall”. Other reports state that the local Animal Control picked up the body. Either way it is very mysterious why with all the media attention the situation got, why the person or agency that took the animal’s body would not come forth. I suspect that it is because the animal did in fact either escape or it’s body was disposed of and washed ashore from the Plum Island Animal Disease Center.

An interview with Dr. Larry Barrett, who runs the Plum Island Animal Disease Center was broadcasted on the History Channel. In the interview he claims that the animal was “a Boxer” and goes as far as comparing the skull of a boxer to that of the animal shown in the pictures. The skulls look nothing alike, and the animal in the picture had a long tail, boxers have stubs for tails. If you have any doubt, find a picture of a boxer skull and compare it

42. Matt - March 4, 2009

Well that sure is nothing I have ever seen before- maybe the Montauk Incident was real.

That creature is also flipping off the camera if you didn’t notice haha.

43. sami hunt - March 10, 2009

44. sami hunt - March 10, 2009

45. sami hunt - March 10, 2009

i think its not real

46. green_eyeshine - March 12, 2009

A racoon???? You cant be serious!! It has to weigh at least 50lbs or better. I have yet to see a racoon anywhere that large.

47. green_eyeshine - March 12, 2009

I say its a dog with mange.

48. sami hunt - March 13, 2009

its a racoon

49. joey95 - March 16, 2009

that’s disgusting! but i think it’s a fake.I mean no one aver talk about this. but one thing 4 sure…SAMI HUNT THIS IS DEFINATELY NOT A RACOON!!!!! RACOONS ARE NICE

50. Kevin - March 17, 2009

Your kidding right? That is a turtle look at it’s face and you’ll she a turtle without a shell so ha saved you all an argument.

51. Cassidy - May 13, 2009

For sure, this is no hoax. This is just another one of these creatures that has washed ashore… Seems to me that it is somehow connected with the huge tsunami in Thailand a few years back. That’s about the time that these mystery creatures began washing up. This is surely some type of missing link, half bird/half mammal? Who knows… I’m sure someone will always have an idiotic answer for us. It is not a turtle, nor is it a dog. Hmmm… brings back memories of the coelacanth– which was supposedly extinct for millions of years, but have been found living in a small community deep in the ocean. How the heck do geologists (or any scientists) sure what is still here, and what is not?

52. Cassidy - May 13, 2009

Surely if this was a fake, they would not keep washing ashore hundreds of miles apart. All pictures that I have ever seen show the creature to look similar in all aspects. This is not the only “Montauk Monster” that has washed ashore. For all you people that think it is a fake, you would be the people telling us believers that this is dog or turtle. These would also be the people that say that the coelacanth is extinct.

53. so sospontanious - May 15, 2009

have they like cut inside it u know and looked around? i mean seriously. either its something weird or its not. i hate the in the middle. its obviously not a dog because it has flipper like things. it has hair or what was hair so it cant be a turtle and how could this be a hoax? theres no possible creature that we know of that would look like this…ahh the mystery!!

samantha - June 8, 2009

THESE PEOPLE ARE STUPID RIGHT

54. samantha - June 8, 2009

I heard about this the day it was found, my dad told me to type it in i dont belive some of the rumors about it but i think it was a dog in a science place that got chemicly formed and had a beek but to be honost thats just messed up.If it was a normal animal, THIS IS TO ALL THE SCIENTISTS,”HOW IN THE WORLD COULD YOU DO THAT TO THE POOR THIN I HATE YOU!!!IF U CAUSE ANYMORE DAMAGE YOUR GOING TO END UP BRINGGING
A T REX BACK!!!!”

i think that because it has the eyes of a mole it could live under ground or a mutation of a new anamale

58. Anonymous - July 20, 2010

Imo if the surfer pulled it from the water, theres a high chance that its from the water, mole like eyes? Meaning that it could have come from the deep sea, after being attacked while venturing towards the shore it was carried to closer to the surface an pulled towards land with the current etc. If you look into the facts, the skin looks bad because it was dragged into the sun, possibly caused by a case of ‘sunburn’. Also if you look back @ such diagrams as ” when whales had legs ” the back legs almost resemble the same sort of position as that. Theres 2 different outcomes, its either land based, or based in the ocean. If you read up on the ‘Sightings’ Its been seen in various parts so it would be hard to pin point. But the skin looks like it has slowly turnt leather like, could be due to the sun as i stated above, also if it could have been from underground. Or lived in shaded places such as caves etc. You’d have to actually find one alive to test it an then track it back to the place it went venture to find home etc.

All in all, its just conspiricy theories in here.

59. an 11 year old kid - July 28, 2010

its ears are on the neck not on the head. It is way to big to be a racoon, the tail is to small. it couldnt be a hoax because a fly is on it eat it while it rots, it is found in several diferrent places and there is a statue of it from a couple thousand years ago. it is not a dog because of the webed feet it face looks more like a bear, the eyes are closer to the sides of the head unlike a predator such as a dog, bear,or racoon wich would suggest it is an herbivore but the teeth look like a carnivore so maybe it is an omnivore. it could be an animal that is semiaquatic because of the webbed feet although the body seems like a bulldog the feet are like a labrador retreiver so if it were a dog it would have to be a mix of those dogs however the head is unlike any dog and it actually ressembles a tapir skull and it coul not be a mix of different animals because the animals it resembles are not able to mix to create a new breed of animal. i am only 11 so if you are older than me and didnt notice those things it proves most of you are not the brightest people.

My guess is a sea turtle…and by the way,the surfer dude threw it into the dunes ’cause he “didn’t want to surf by it” ? He probably killed it by doing so.

68. Melva - August 28, 2011

Today is the first day I have ever heard or seen pic of this creature on the History Channel.
I do agree that it looks like a “mad science” project gone wrong, but has anyone else noticed the cloth tied around it’s front legs? This tells me that it could have been trying to bite whoever was trying to get rid of it. Poor thing. Just because we have the technology to cross different animals that would never mate in the wild does not give us the rite to play God just to “see what hapens”.
